Our goals as Duke Trauma Center are to:

  • Provide the best care possible to trauma patients
  • Educate health care providers in the care of trauma patients
  • Prevent injury through education of the public on safety issues
  • Participate in trauma research
  • Assist health care facilities and the public to prepare for disasters

The Duke Trauma Center is part of a statewide trauma system dedicated to the care of those that become victims of trauma injury. Regulated by legislative rules, we work with other trauma centers in the state to ensure that trauma care is available to all. As you can imagine, to accomplish these goals there are many different components to the Trauma Center. There is an in-patient service, Trauma Services, where the patient with multiple types of injuries can be admitted for care. The trauma physicians lead a team of people to provide the best care possible to the trauma patient. This team is made up of doctors, nurses, occupational, physical, and speech therapists, nutritionist, social workers, chaplains, and more. In addition are the many specialties that can become involved in a patients’ care such as orthopedics, neurosurgery, pediatrics, emergency medicine, plastics, radiology, and so many others.
